Ipswich is starting to feel more festive with the arrival of the town's Christmas tree ahead of the highly anticipated light switch-on event.

The tree is once again standing tall on the Cornhill, with work taking place to decorate it on Wednesday.

Every year the tree is the main event of the Christmas light switch-on event, which this year is due to take place on Sunday, November 17.

The tree, that will stand 40ft tall, has been organised by Ipswich Central, with businesses in the town centre contributing towards it

"With lots of new shop openings recently and a big event being planned for December 14, there are many reasons to come into town in the lead-up to Christmas 2024."

The event on Sunday will kick off at 4pm and the countdown will illuminate the Town Hall and the high street at 6.45pm.

This year the mayor, Elango Elavalakan, will switch on the lights after the entertainment.

Entertainment from Jack and the Beanstalk's pantomime cast, singers and Act First students will run from 4pm, along with an interview from Ipswich Town FC player Leif Davis and chief executive Mark Ashton.
