Proposals to create a five-bedroom house of multiple occupancy (HMO) in Ipswich have been submitted to planners.

Applicant Mark Middleton is planning to change the use of its current seven-bedroom home at 16 Hatfield Road, near the Felixstowe Road Aldi supermarket.

Documents submitted to Ipswich Borough Council state the applicant wants to alter the existing rooms at the property.

The borough council sets an automatic eight-week target date for a decision on all planning applications it receives.

The application is the latest in recent weeks seeking to convert properties across the town into HMOs, with earlier this week an applicant seeking to use a five-bedroom HMO on London Road.

In an attempt to crack down on the HMOs, the council issued an Article 4 direction in June.

The government-approved direction will ensure that all developers who want to turn a house into an HMO will need to seek planning permission regardless of the number of occupants.

Hatfield Road does fall under these boundaries, therefore this application must go through the council to proceed with the plans.
