Ipswich potholes that have been described as "dangerous" as cars swerve to avoid them are set to be fixed following complaints being raised.

The potholes have been causing motorists and cyclists issues for a number of months, are dotted around the road stretching from the bottom of Bishops Hill to the Rosehill Centre, just off Felixstowe Road.

The worst patch of potholes appears to be at the top of Bishops Hill, where Felixstowe Road meets Nacton Road.

In February, residents complained about the state of the road, stating it was an "absolute disgrace" and "dangerous".

Two of the big potholes were later fixed, but a number of smaller ones still remain, causing cars to "swerve to avoid the ever-growing potholes".

A resident said: "I saw a car almost take out a cyclist as they served to avoid the potholes. It is not the first time I have seen it either."

Another resident, using the Suffolk Highways reporting tool, said that the potholes are "crumbling daily" and the road needs some "serious TLC".

George Lankester, Ipswich Borough Councillor for the Holywells ward, said: "I share residents' frustration and have also reported to the County Council to no avail.

"I will be raising this with county councillor Paul West directly, including at the next South East Area Committee meeting."

A statement from Suffolk Highways said: "Bishops Hill and Felixstowe Road are regularly inspected and any defects which are found to meet the criteria set out in our Highway Maintenance Operational Plan, will be repaired.

"The location is also on the programme to be considered for future surface treatment.

"We encourage members of the public to continue reporting any road defects to us via our Highways Reporting Tool."

Suffolk Highways has now ordered work to be done on the road.
