An Ipswich pub with a "long history of real ale" and "wonderful beer garden" says it is extremely grateful for its customers after it was named the pub in the region again.

The Fat Cat in Spring Road has been named the best pub in the Ipswich and East Suffolk area in the 2024 Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) Awards.

This comes after they have been named best CAMRA pub in the region for 10 of the last 12 years.

The pub, which is for over 18s only, was previously ran by owner John Keatley and his late wife Annie who stepped back in 2018.

The pub was then run by manager Liz Pledge before Mr Keatley's son James it over.

Assistant manager of The Fat Cat, Al Dowman, who has been serving ales at the pub for more than 12 years, said: "We are delighted to win this award again as we put a lot of effort into what we do and we really care.

"We have a strong history of serving real ale and a customer base who have stuck with us throughout Covid, so we are very lucky.ustomer at The Fat Cat 

"We'd like to thank our lovely loyal customers for making our community great and sticking with us through thick and thin. So many people have helped us to get this award."

He added: "Anyone who loves the taste of real ale and enjoys relaxing in a nice beer garden should come check us out. We are very lucky to have our gardener, Suzanne, who makes the place look amazing."

The pub has previously won several accolades for its quintessential atmosphere and award-winning beers, including Ipswich Pub of the Year in 2020 and the Good Pub Guide's top 10 beer pubs in 2022.

The Fat Cat will also be holding a beer festival from Friday, August 23 to Bank Holiday Monday, August 26, where it will be serving a range of local beers alongside a barbecue on the Sunday served by the owner.

The pub's opening times are 12pm to 11pm everyday apart from Sundays, when it closes at 10pm.
