An extremely rare penny has been sold for 624,000 its face value after going under the hammer in Suffolk this weekend.
The rare proof penny, which was dated 1949 and featured the head of King George VI, went under the hammer at Lockdales Auctions in Martlesham.
Despite having a guide price of between £800 and £1,200, the coin eventually sold for £2,600.
The 1949 coin was unearthed among a collection of coins within the auction.
