A new Japanese and Korean restaurant is set to open on St Nicholas Street, Ipswich, in April.
A sign has appeared on the frontage of the former site of La Cueva, which reads: ‘Takayama. Japanese & Korean restaurant. Coming soon April 2023.’
Takayama is a “warm, easygoing eatery” which currently has a restaurant open on Fore Street.
The St Nicholas Street location was previously the site of Zizzi and became popular Ipswich bar La Cueva in April 2022.
In July, the Ipswich Star ran a review of the restaurant, labelling it “an elegant space with high-end vibes”.
However, the owner had to close its doors after just eight months of trading, saying rising utility bills had run them out of business.
Also located on St Nicholas Street, K Bar and Grill announced that it would cease operations after 13 years on New Year’s Day.
While the future of K Bar and Grill is currently unknown, La Cueva is to reopen as Takayama in April.
