An Ipswich man has denied committing offences of indecency with a schoolgirl more than three decades ago.

Before Ipswich Crown Court is John Morley, 52, of Felixstowe Road, Ipswich who has pleaded not guilty to two offences of committing an act of gross indecency with a girl aged between the ages of five and eight.

The offences are alleged to have been committed between September 1983 and September 1987.

In a police video interview which was played to the jury today, Monday, the alleged victim said Morley had made her touch him indecently.

She said that when she was 13 or 14 she had read an article at school about sex abuse and what Morley had allegedly made her do to him had come back to her.

She told police she had immediately thought: “Oh my god it happened to me.”

She said she had been in a state of shock and had kept going over the article.

The witness said she hadn’t thought about what Morley had allegedly done to her in the intervening years until she read the article.

The trial continues.
