A TV soap icon is bringing his karaoke with a twist to Ipswich to give singers "the ultimate hoot" this autumn.

Shaun Williamson -  known for playing Barry in EastEnders, as well as starring in Extras and Life’s Too Short - has more recently gone viral online and is taking on the music festival scene.

After two years of touring the UK’s live music venues, Barrioke is fast becoming a staple on the circuit.

All summer long he will be hosting Barrioke nights, starting in London at Between The Bridges on May 24, an event that has sold out.

But fans will be able to catch him in a music venue in Ipswich this autumn, run by Alternative Ipswich, which puts on alternative music club nights every month at St Stephen's Church.

Shaun hosts the events with his usual warmth and banter, accompanying participants on stage.

Ipswich Star:

It is expected to create riotous, joyous moments that people will never forget.

Organiser Ed Barnes, the Ipswich DJ who runs the events, said:  "I saw Barrioke in the flesh when visiting a friend out of town and thought to myself Ipswich needs this kind of party.

"It's an absolute hoot and chance to get up on stage with a legend and blast out a tune with him.

"Fans of Eastenders, Extras, and anyone who wants a fun night out will love Barrioke."

Shaun Williamson is best known for the EastEnders character, and as later playing a satirical version of himself in the BBC/HBO sitcom Extras, 'Barry off EastEnders'.

He first appeared in the long-running TV programme in December 1994, and made his last appearance in an episode that aired in January 2004.

The night will take place on Friday, October 18, at The Baths venue on Civic Drive.
